My speciality is Gastroenterology and I see conditions relating to both the upper and lower the gastrointestinal tract.  Commonly the symptoms I see include indigestion, heartburn, swallowing problems, non-cardiac chest pain, iron deficiency anaemia, weight loss, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and rectal bleeding.  My expertise and training is in endoscopy including gastroscopy, endoscopic ultrasound and colonoscopy and I am the clinical lead consultant for Endoscopy in Southampton.
My specific research interest is in the oesophagus and I maintain an information website for educational purposes on this subject at www.bsfs.org.uk - please do visit!

I graduated from Bristol University in 1990, served in the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1990-97, and then completed my training within Wessex before being appointed to a substantive consultant post in Southampton in 2004. I consult both in the NHS and privately and see referrals from both GPs and consultant colleagues.
I am married and have one beautiful daughter. Outside medicine, when the family allows (!), I am a keen squash player and keep-fit devotee. Despite this I still love cooking and swirling the odd glass of Burgundy and in more restful hours read copiously and also write – currently working on my third book.
I am an avid cricket follower and bowl slow left arm on occasional outings!
